Treat custom assets like every other type

Completed

Custom assets should have an underlying base type of stock, bond, etf, mutial fund or fixed asset to enable better tracking of the asset.

Since custom assets are assets that AIV doesn't have a source for, then enabling the asset to be at least tracked/grouped by name would enable some sort of tracking of that asset.

The only way to book a sale of a custom transaction is to enter a negative quantity. However, AIV isn't linking multiple custom asset transactions together, therefore there isn't any type of tracking for that asset.

Currently, you can only book a purchase of a custom asset transaction, but there's no tracking for the sale of a specified custom asset. That is, if I book 100 units of a custom asset "A" for $100 and book a sale for 100 units of "A" at $50, it will still technically show that I have $50 value worth of asset "A" since it's not tracking the assets units by name, that is the quantities aren't taken into consideration.

Thank you for the detailed feedback!

Currently, custom assets should be tracked and grouped by name, including the selling transactions. The total quantity reflects the sum of all transactions for a given asset, and realized and unrealized returns are calculated similarly to stocks with market data. This is displayed on the dashboard for both the nominal values and quantities.

We need to ensure that the quantity of the transactions are aligned , not only the nominals (e.g if we buy 1 units of A at 1000 and -5 units of B at 200, then we have negative quantity of the asset even though the nominal is 0).

To help us better understand your scenario, could you provide an example, such as a testing public portfolio that exemplify your use case? If you could share the link to this portfolio or elaborate further on the specific behavior you’re seeing, it would be immensely helpful for us to assess and address your concerns accurately!

✅ This should be fully supported (forgot to update here).

Custom assets are treated like any other asset type — quantities are properly tracked by name, and you can now book both purchases and sales. Realized and unrealized returns are calculated accordingly.

You can also add historical prices manually to improve performance tracking over time.

Let us know if you encounter any issues!
