Empower and AllInvestView
Both platforms aggregate financial accounts and analyze portfolios–but their target audiences and revenue models point in opposite directions.
Empower (Personal Capital)
Free US-focused portfolio dashboard with retirement planning tools and an investment fee analyzer. Empower Personal Wealth charges 0.89% from $100,000, with lower rates at higher asset levels.
AllInvestView
FeaturedSelf-directed multi-asset tracking and analytics with global broker support, tax reports for fourteen countries, bond pricing, options Greeks and an AI assistant. No wealth management upsell.
What Empower Offers
Empower's free dashboard is genuinely useful–net worth tracking, retirement projections, and a unique investment fee analyzer that surfaces hidden costs in 401(k)s and mutual funds. The catch is the business model.
Where Empower Works Well
- Free portfolio tracking with strong US institution connectivity
- Retirement planner with savings projections and goal tracking
- Investment fee analyzer reveals hidden 401(k) and mutual fund costs
- Net worth dashboard across investment + bank + credit accounts
- Monte Carlo simulations for retirement planning
- Mobile apps for iOS and Android
What Empower does not cover
- The free tools introduce a paid advisory service
- Built around US institutions and US tax: no multi-currency tracking, no foreign capital gains report
- Bonds are basic holdings
- No bond yield, duration or spread: fixed income is an asset class percentage
- No capital gains tax reports (only basic gain/loss summaries)
- No cost-basis method selection: FIFO, LIFO and average cost are not user choices
The business model: Empower gives the dashboard away because it introduces Empower Personal Wealth, an advisory service with published fees from 0.89% a year and a $100,000 entry minimum. AllInvestView has no advisory arm.
What AllInvestView Adds
AllInvestView is a managed portfolio tracker, not an advisory service. It has a free tier, paid subscriptions and a one-time Lifetime Deal.
Portfolio and Reporting Tools
- Global broker sync: Read-only links cover 30+ global brokerages. They include Interactive Brokers, Schwab, Fidelity, Robinhood, Webull, Trading 212, DEGIRO, Public, Wealthsimple, AJ Bell, BUX and eToro. Accounts update nightly.
- Tax reports across borders: Fourteen country rule sets support FIFO, LIFO, HIFO and average cost.
- Bond mathematics: Prices bonds from coupon and maturity against the government yield curve, with YTM, duration, convexity, accrued interest and a bond ladder.
- Options analytics: Real-time Greeks (Delta, Gamma, Theta, Vega, Rho). Covered call calculator, cash-secured put calculator, multi-leg payoff diagrams.
- Multi-currency: Each holding retains native currency, with historical FX rates at trade date for accurate tax cost basis.
- Real estate, crypto, custom assets: Property tracking with rental income, cap rate, NOI. Native crypto support. Custom assets for collectibles, private equity, art.
- AI portfolio assistant: Natural-language queries (“show my biggest sector exposure”, “dividends next month”).
- Lifetime payment option: One-time fee eliminates recurring subscription. Dedicated page at /pricing/lifetime-deal/.
- 9 UI languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese.
Asset Class Support
Stocks, ETFs and mutual funds are handled on both. Empower covers US equities through its institution-connectivity model; AllInvestView covers global equities across 80+ exchanges via ticker or ISIN, with multi-currency awareness.
Tracks bond holdings as line items, but does not calculate yield-to-maturity, duration or coupon schedules.
Uses coupon, maturity and the government curve to calculate price, YTM, modified duration, convexity and accrued interest, then lays maturities out as a ladder.
Options trading is unsupported.
Tracks options contracts with real-time Greeks, multi-leg strategies and payoff diagrams.
Holdings are classified into asset class percentages for the allocation view.
Native crypto tracking with real-time pricing. Real estate with rental income, cap rate, NOI and cash-on-cash return.
Geographic Coverage
This is the largest gap between the two platforms.
- Built around US institutions and US tax reporting
- USD-denominated tracking only
- US tax law (basic gain/loss; no formal tax report generation)
- Retirement projections built around United States workplace plans, social security and required distributions
- 30+ brokers across US, UK, Europe, Canada, Australia, Asia
- 50+ trading currencies with historical FX conversion
- Capital gains rules for fourteen countries
- Spain Modelo 720 foreign asset declaration auto-generation
- Designed for cross-border investors and expatriates
Empower is for US accounts. AllInvestView supports global investors with several brokers and currencies.
Tax Reporting Depth
Shows realized and unrealized gains in dashboard summaries, but does not generate formal capital gains tax reports. Users typically export data to TurboTax or work with their CPA. International tax law is unsupported.
- Country rules: Fourteen jurisdiction presets are ready to use
- Cost basis methods: Average Cost, HIFO, LIFO and FIFO
- Configurable for any jurisdiction: custom tax rates, brackets, wash sale windows, dividend withholding
- Loss carryforward: multi-year tracking
- Spain Modelo 720: automated foreign asset declaration
- Output formats: PDF, Excel, CSV
How the Tax Math Stays Accurate
The tax report starts with reconciled activity, not a balance snapshot. Each synced buy and sell remains linked to its broker record, disagreements are identified, and a removed trade stays removed after later syncs. That gives the lot-matching report the trade history it needs.
Inside AllInvestView
Your account on 31 December
Empower keeps a running picture across the brokerage, workplace plan, bank and mortgage. Its net worth line, allocation read and Investment Checkup all describe the balance sheet as it is this morning. It is designed to show whether your retirement plan is on track. A tax return may need your position at the end of the tax year instead.
AllInvestView also shows net worth, allocation and holding weights across linked accounts. You can set the dashboard to a past date. It then rebuilds the balance, gain, money-weighted rate of return and the dividends banked by then, with each position at the weight it actually carried, priced from the daily history kept per instrument. The 31 December 2025 view needs no snapshot saved on that day.
AllInvestView
Sold lots and estimated tax
The same year and period remain fixed when methods are compared. In this example, 1 January to 3 September 2026 under Average Cost selected: realised gain is USD 2,300, estimated tax is USD 506, dividends are USD 174 and total return is USD 10,102. Changing the lot method reruns the same dated trades. The report then shows the cost of each method.
The fixed end date separates this tax-period return from the live portfolio. Trades after 3 September fall outside these figures, while each position still open on that date has a dash under Tax Owed and an If sold estimate. Nvidia, for example, is about USD 1,280 if sold. The tax calculation and portfolio state use the same past date.
AllInvestView
Tax rules outside the US
For someone outside the US, local tax rules matter more than an appendix to Empower's American retirement view. The UK shows 18-24% and its 30-day bed and breakfast rule. Ireland shows 33% and 38% with eight-year UCITS deemed disposal. Canada shows 50% inclusion and its 30-day superficial loss rule. Australia shows up to 45% with the 50% long-term discount.
Changing country replaces the template but keeps your custom rules. People in London, Dublin, Toronto or Sydney can use their home-country rules. They do not have to translate a US tax summary first.
AllInvestView
Individual bond analytics
Fixed income reaches Empower as a percentage. A linked account's bonds appear in the asset class breakdown and in the Investment Checkup's comparison against a target weight. It does not show yield to maturity, duration or the spread over the sovereign curve.
AllInvestView stores each bond separately. Its ISIN, coupon and maturity support a spread over the government yield curve for that bond's own currency, and the holding reprices from that spread over time. Curves are wired for five currencies, the dollar one drawn from Treasury data. The displayed price is the broker mark. The panel shows yield to maturity, spread in basis points, modified duration, convexity, current yield and accrued interest. It also names the benchmark used for calibration. Bonds do not count toward the free tier's ten-holding cap. You can therefore model a full ladder on that tier.
AllInvestView
Options from linked accounts
Options are available at Empower inside its own self-directed brokerage. In the aggregating dashboard they are not a tracked position type for linked outside accounts. A contract written at another broker has no strike, expiry or Greeks in the dashboard. The premium appears as cash.
In AllInvestView, each contract is a separate instrument. Eleven supported structures include spreads in either direction, the volatility pairs, condors, and a covered call that carries on into a wheel. Butterflies and bare single legs are not among them. Every leg is repriced as the market moves. Each position reports its own theta, delta, vega and gamma. Rho is totalled for the portfolio. Option lifecycle events stay attached to the share trade they create. The dashboard totals daily theta over open legs. Win rate and an expiry timeline are shown too. Contracts are outside the free holding allowance as well.
AllInvestView
Exporting your data
Empower does let the data leave. Transaction export to CSV is available from both the web app and the iPhone app. The export contains the transaction rows collected by the dashboard.
The finished tax work exports as PDF, Excel or CSV, with positions, gains, dividends, estimated tax, period, jurisdiction and method preserved in the document. Holdings also export separately as xlsx.

Pricing & The Upsell
Empower: The portfolio dashboard is free. Empower Personal Wealth charges 0.89% a year from a $100,000 minimum. The rate falls to 0.49% only above $10 million, within a tier that starts at $1 million. After connecting accounts, expect outreach about advisory services. Some people accept that for free tools. Others do not.
AllInvestView: Transparent tier pricing.
- Free: 10 holdings, 1 portfolio, AI assistant
- Starter: $6.99/month (annual billing)–25 holdings, broker sync
- Advanced: $11.99/month (annual billing)–unlimited holdings, tax reports, 30+ year history
- Pro: $24.99/month (annual billing)–unlimited everything
- Lifetime Deal: $497 one-time, permanent access
No advisor calls and no fees on assets. You pay for the software and that is all.
Track the Accounts Without an Advisory Relationship
The free tier covers up to 10 holdings, with direct broker connections and tax reporting available on paid plans. There is no wealth management upselling.
Which service to choose
AllInvestView covers the dashboard you use Empower for: net worth, connected accounts, allocation, performance and retirement projections stay together.
You can view the account on a past date or measure a period you choose. Reconciled trades can then feed capital gains reports under fourteen country rule sets.
It also tracks individual bonds, option contracts, crypto and property in the same account. Empower remains the stronger fit for US retirement planning, its 401(k) fee analyzer and access to an advisory service.
Questions Answered
Is Empower the same as Personal Capital?
Yes. Personal Capital was acquired by Empower and now carries the Empower name. The free tools, net worth tracking, fee analyzer and retirement planner remain. The standalone Personal Dashboard app was retired in October 2025, and its features now live inside the combined Empower app.
How well does Empower serve an investor outside the United States?
Empower is built for a US filer. The planner runs on 401(k), social security and RMD rules, there is no multi-currency tracking, and Empower produces no capital gains report for any jurisdiction. AllInvestView syncs brokers across the US, Europe, Canada, Australia and Asia, holds every position in its native currency at the trade-date rate, and carries capital gains rules for fourteen countries.
Why is Empower free?
Empower's free tools introduce Empower Personal Wealth, the advisory business that charges 0.49% to 0.89% of assets a year on a tiered schedule beginning at a $100,000 minimum. AllInvestView has no advisory service, so the revenue model is the subscription or the one-time lifetime payment and nothing else.
What's the best Empower alternative without advisor calls?
AllInvestView is the closest functional alternative. It combines net worth tracking and direct broker sync with bonds, options, crypto, real estate and multi-currency, then applies capital-gains rules for fourteen countries. No wealth management upselling.
Does AllInvestView have retirement planning like Empower?
AllInvestView includes Monte Carlo simulation for retirement projections and net worth tracking. Empower's retirement planner is more US-specific with 401(k) optimization, social security analysis and RMD calculations. For pure US retirement planning, Empower remains more specialized; for global tracking with retirement projections, AllInvestView fits better.
Can Empower track bonds, options, or crypto?
Empower classifies bonds as an asset class percentage without yield or duration, and options exist only inside its own self-directed brokerage rather than as a tracked position type for linked accounts. AllInvestView prices individual bonds off the government yield curve, tracks option contracts with Greeks and holds crypto as its own asset type.
How do I migrate from Empower to AllInvestView?
Export transactions from Empower as CSV, or use a read-only connection for a supported broker. Either route can rebuild the portfolio history in AllInvestView.
Does AllInvestView have a fee analyzer like Empower?
AllInvestView shows expense ratios on ETFs and mutual funds and tracks fees per transaction. It does not currently offer Empower's specific 401(k) fee analyzer that breaks down hidden plan costs; that remains a unique Empower feature.
