Navexa vs Sharesight: Pricing, CGT and Franking Compared

Sharesight is the cheaper way in. It has a free plan for 10 holdings, and its A$59 Tax Pack covers one portfolio of any size at tax time. Navexa has no free plan, but every plan from A$240 a year comes with unlimited holdings and an ATO myTax report with the field codes filled in. Both handle franking credits, the 50% CGT discount and broker imports, so the choice comes down to how you'd rather pay and how much control you want over parcels.

Pricing in AUD

Both vendors quote Australian prices including GST and knock about a quarter off for paying yearly. The plan names match, but the limits behind them don't.

Take a typical ASX portfolio of 40 shares and ETFs. Sharesight's Basic plan stops at 30 holdings, closed positions included, so full tracking means Standard at A$348 a year. Navexa's Basic plan covers the lot for A$240, with its tax reports included. If tax time is all you care about, the Sharesight Tax Pack is hard to beat: A$59 buys a year of taxable income, capital gains and all-trades reports for one portfolio with no holding limit.

Navexa's top features sit higher up its ladder. Manual parcel selection needs Premium at A$480 a year, and the unrealised CGT and performance breakdown reports start at Standard. Navexa also refunds every fee paid in the first six months if you cancel and ask, a guarantee written into its terms. On Sharesight, the Multi-Period report is exclusive to Premium, while Xero and labels arrive with Standard.

CGT, franking and myTax

This is where most Australian investors make the call, and both tools are strong here. The difference is in how the figures reach your return.

Navexa
  • An ATO myTax report with field codes mapped for capital gains, taxable income, franking credits and foreign income
  • Five CGT strategies: FIFO, LIFO, minimise gain, maximise gain and manual parcel selection
  • The 50% discount applied parcel by parcel
  • Scenarios that show what a sale you haven't made yet would add to the year
  • Read-only portfolio sharing with your accountant
Sharesight
  • A taxable income report that splits Australian trust and non-trust income from foreign income, with franking credits
  • A capital gains tax report under ATO rules, with sales allocation methods and parcel cost bases to compare
  • The CGT discount set by tax entity: individual or trust, SMSF, or company
  • AMIT component breakdowns on ETF distributions
  • Xero integration for SMSF record keeping on Standard and Premium

Both trackers count franking credits in performance returns, with Sharesight listing them in its taxable income report and Navexa mapping them to myTax.

Performance reporting

Navexa

An annualised return for the portfolio and every holding, split into capital gain, income and currency. Benchmark against the ASX 200, ASX 50, S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, Bitcoin, any listed security or another of your portfolios. A weekly performance summary comes on every plan, and the per-holding breakdown from Standard.

Sharesight

An annualised return including capital gains, dividends and currency moves, over preset periods or your own dates going back more than 20 years. Benchmark against any share, ETF or fund it covers. Contribution analysis and drawdown risk come with Standard, up to five periods side by side with Premium, and an Exposure report shows what sits inside your ETFs from Basic up.

Broker imports and integrations

Navexa

Connects to 175+ brokers and exchanges, including CommSec, SelfWealth, Stake, CMC Invest, nabtrade, Pearler and Interactive Brokers, plus crypto exchanges and wallets. Anything else comes in as a CSV export from your broker.

Sharesight

Imports trades from 200+ brokers, with CommSec, CMC Markets and Selfwealth among them. Forwarding trade confirmation emails works on every plan, and spreadsheet uploads cover the rest. Prices come from 60+ markets.

Free plans, trials and limits

Sharesight's free plan gives you one portfolio and 10 holdings, and every security you've ever held counts towards that, sold ones included. It runs the Performance, Sold Securities and All Trades reports, but not the tax reports. A demo portfolio lets you try the paid reports first, and the mobile app is free for everyone.

Navexa skips the free plan and offers a 14-day trial with no card. Once you pay, holdings are never the limit: portfolios are. Basic holds one tax entity, and extra portfolios cost from A$5 a month on Standard and A$8 on Premium. Its support starts with a 24/7 AI assistant, with a person stepping in during business hours from Standard.

Who each one suits

Sharesight

  • Investors starting out with a handful of holdings who want to pay nothing
  • Anyone who only needs tax reports for one portfolio, at A$59 a year
  • SMSF trustees who reconcile in Xero
  • Investors who want to see inside their ETFs or compare several periods at once

Navexa

  • Portfolios past 30 holdings on a budget, with unlimited holdings from A$240
  • Investors who copy figures straight into myTax
  • Anyone who manages CGT by choosing a strategy or the parcels sold
  • Crypto holders who want coins and shares in one report

The best of both: AllInvestView

If Sharesight's free start appeals and so do Navexa's return-ready tax figures, AllInvestView gives you both in one account. You start free with no card and follow your ASX shares, franked dividends and overseas holdings together. At tax time, the Australian filing pack prepares items 11, 18 and 20 of your return on any paid plan, and you can name the parcels you sold without moving to a top tier.

Items 11, 18 and 20, parcel by parcel

The pack fills 11S, 11T and 11U for dividends and franking, 18H, 18A and 18V for capital gains, and 20M and 20O for foreign income, all in AUD. Losses come off before the 50% discount, unused losses carry forward, and every foreign-currency purchase and sale is converted on its own date. Open a holding to see the parcels behind the number, then hand your accountant the sheet as a PDF, Excel or CSV file.

Franking and parcels, checked before you lodge

Each franked dividend shows its credit, and the pack asks you to confirm you're entitled to it, since the holding-period and dividend-washing rules decide that. You also set how parcels are matched: first in, first out, or the exact parcels you sold when your records identify them.

On Navexa, manual parcel selection is a Premium feature at A$480 a year. Here it comes with every paid plan, and the free capital gains report prices the same year's sales under FIFO, LIFO, HIFO and average cost side by side.

To test the rules first, the free CGT calculator works out one sale after the discount, and the franking credits calculator handles a single dividend.

Returns for any window you pick

The dashboard shows both the time-weighted return you'd compare with an index and the IRR that reflects when you added money. Choose any start and end date and the capital gain, income and return are worked out again for just that window.

Your brokers, and everything else you own

CommSec and Stake accounts connect read-only on paid plans, and files from CMC Markets or any other broker come in from CSV or Excel whatever the column layout. US shares, bonds, options, crypto and property sit in the same portfolio, and the X-Ray opens your ETFs to show the companies inside them. If you move overseas later, capital gains rules for 17 countries are already there.

Start free, and have tax time covered

The free plan tracks 10 holdings with no card, and new accounts get 14 days of Advanced to try everything. Paid plans start at $6.99 a month billed yearly in US dollars, or own it outright with the $497 lifetime deal.

Questions

Is Navexa cheaper than Sharesight?

It depends on how many holdings you have and which reports you need. Under 30 holdings, Sharesight Basic is A$108 a year against A$240 for Navexa Basic, but Basic leaves out Sharesight's tax reports. Past 30 holdings, Sharesight needs Standard at A$348 a year, so Navexa Basic is the cheaper full plan. If tax reports for one portfolio are all you want, the Sharesight Tax Pack costs A$59 a year.

Which is better for an Australian tax return, Navexa or Sharesight?

Both calculate capital gains under ATO rules with the 50% discount and report franked dividend income. Navexa maps its figures to myTax field codes on every plan and lets Premium users pick parcels by hand. Sharesight sets the discount by entity, including SMSFs and companies, and its tax reports come with Standard, Premium or the Tax Pack.

Do Navexa and Sharesight track franking credits?

Yes. Sharesight lists franking credits in its taxable income report with franked and unfranked income shown apart. Navexa puts franking credits on its myTax report and counts them in the income part of your return.

Does Navexa have a free plan?

No. Navexa offers a 14-day trial without a card, then plans from A$240 a year. Sharesight has a free plan for one portfolio and 10 holdings, closed positions included, without its tax reports.

Can I move my history from Sharesight to Navexa?

Sharesight appears on Navexa's integration list, and Navexa also imports CSV files from any broker. Moving the other way, Sharesight accepts spreadsheet uploads and trade confirmation emails.

Is there a tracker that combines the best of Navexa and Sharesight?

AllInvestView starts free like Sharesight and prepares items 11, 18 and 20 of the Australian return like Navexa's myTax report. Parcel selection, franking entitlement and CommSec or Stake broker sync come with every paid plan.

Navexa and Sharesight prices are in AUD including GST, taken from the Navexa and Sharesight Australian pricing pages on 13 October 2026. Yearly figures are the annual-billing prices; Sharesight's are its monthly rate times twelve. Features come from each vendor's own tax, performance and integrations pages.
