- Pack
- Prepared, with every parcel's proceeds, cost base, discount and share of 18A.
The pack prepares Australian company dividends, share sale gains and foreign dividend income in AUD for items 11, 18 and 20, from every broker you use, with your losses taken off before the 50% discount.
Each investment label on the individual return, and how far the pack takes it before you lodge.
| Item | The rule | Return label | What the pack produces |
|---|---|---|---|
| Share sales | Proceeds minus the cost base, brokerage included both ways. Losses come off first, then gains on parcels held 12 months or more are halved. | 18H, 18A | Prepared Total current year capital gains and the net capital gain, with every parcel's proceeds, cost base, discount and share of 18A listed underneath. |
| Which parcels you sold | Shares stay individually identifiable, so you can choose the parcels a sale closed. Without a choice, first in, first out applies. | Behind 18H and 18A | Prepared First in, first out by default, or your own selection, with each parcel showing whether it gets the discount. |
| Capital losses | Losses go against gains without the discount first, where they save the most. What is left carries forward with no time limit. | 18V | Prepared This year's losses and earlier years' losses applied in that order, and the amount carried forward. |
| Australian company dividends | Franked and unfranked amounts are reported separately, and the franking credit is added to income and then refunded or offset. | 11S, 11T, 11U | Prepared The unfranked amount, the franked amount and the franking credits you are entitled to, payment by payment. |
| Foreign dividends | Overseas dividends are reported gross. Tax withheld abroad can give a foreign income tax offset, which has its own limit. | 20M | Prepared Foreign dividends are shown gross in AUD, with overseas tax withheld listed separately. |
| Super and SMSF accounts | A super fund is a separate taxpayer with its own return. | Not on your return | Tracked, not taxed Mark the account once and it stays in your portfolio and out of the return. |
| Lodging the return | You lodge through myTax or a registered tax agent. | Individual return | You lodge Everything leaves as PDF, Excel or CSV for you or your agent. |
Two free calculators run the same rules as the pack, no account needed.
The labels for items 11, 18 and 20 sit at the top, with the ATO return revision the sheet was built against. Open a holding and every parcel shows when it was bought and sold, its proceeds and cost base in AUD, whether it got the discount and how much it adds to 18A. The line at the bottom adds the parcels up, so you can see the net capital gain is the sum of what is printed.

Residence for the whole income year, which parcels you sold, and whether you held each franked dividend long enough to claim its credit. Each answer is saved with the year, and a figure that needs one waits for it instead of being guessed. Close the year and your answers freeze with the figures, and any loss you carry forward is waiting in next year's pack.

The finished pack leaves as PDF, Excel or CSV, with the labels and the parcel detail behind them. While a figure is still waiting on an answer the buttons stay off, because half a return is worse than none. Your agent gets the evidence as well as the totals, which is what makes a figure easy to accept.

Most Australian investors hold shares in more than one place: CommSec for the bank shares, Stake for US stocks, an old account somewhere else. The CGT discount, the loss order and the franking all work across the whole year, so the report has to see all of it at once.
It does not lodge with the ATO. It prepares the labels and the evidence; it does not work out your marginal tax, the Medicare levy or your final foreign income tax offset. The labels fill for income years whose ATO return it has been checked against, currently the Tax return for individuals 2026 for 2025/26.
It prepares share sale gains and company dividends in AUD for Australian resident individuals. Part-year residence, bonds, options and short sales are left out, and where an exchange rate or an answer is missing, that figure waits instead of being filled in.
A capital gain is added to your taxable income and taxed at your marginal rate. If you held the shares for at least 12 months, not counting the day you bought or the day you sold, an individual only adds half the gain. Shares bought on 1 January qualify on a sale from 2 January the next year. Our CGT calculator shows how many days a sale is from that line and what waiting would save.
Capital losses reduce your gains before the discount, and you choose which gains they reduce. Putting them against gains that do not get the discount first saves the most, because a dollar of loss removes a full dollar of taxable gain there instead of fifty cents. The pack applies them that way, current-year losses before earlier ones, and carries the rest forward with no time limit. A capital loss never reduces tax on your salary.
If you bought the same share several times, each purchase is its own parcel with its own cost and date. The ATO lets you choose which parcels a sale closed as long as your records identify them, and that choice can decide whether the gain is discounted. The pack matches first in, first out unless you choose, and shows the discount status of every parcel while you pick.
A franked dividend comes with the company tax already paid on it. You report the cash at 11T, any unfranked part at 11S and the credit at 11U; the credit is added to your income and then comes off your tax, and any excess is refunded. To claim it you need to hold the shares at risk for 45 continuous days around the ex-dividend date, unless the small shareholder exemption applies: credits of A$5,000 or less for the year and no related payment passing the benefit on. The franking credits calculator shows the refund or top-up on any dividend.
Every leg of a foreign trade is converted on its own date: the purchase at the purchase date's rate and the sale at the sale date's. Dividends from overseas go to 20M gross, converted on the payment date, and the tax withheld abroad is listed separately for working out your foreign income tax offset. The pack records the rate and the date it used for each one, so the conversion can be checked.
The Australian filing pack, like every country pack, is part of every paid plan, starting with Starter at US$6.99 a month billed yearly. The free plan tracks your portfolio and dividends and includes the free capital gains tax report. See plans and pricing for the rest.
Not tax advice. This page summarises the main Australian investment tax rules for resident individuals. Your circumstances differ, so confirm your position with the ATO or a registered tax agent before you lodge.
Bring in every account once, and the discount, the losses and the franking stay right for the whole income year.
The figures for items 11, 18 and 20 of the individual return, in AUD: unfranked and franked Australian company dividends with their franking credits at 11S, 11T and 11U, total current year capital gains, the net capital gain and losses carried forward at 18H, 18A and 18V, and foreign dividend income at 20M, with overseas tax withheld listed separately in AUD. Distributions from Australian ETFs and managed funds are listed on their own for item 13, which you fill in from each fund's annual tax statement.
Every parcel held for at least 12 months, counting neither the purchase day nor the sale day, gets the discount. Current-year and carried-forward capital losses come off first, against the gains without a discount where they save the most, and only then is the discount taken.
Yes. Sales match first in, first out by default. Where your records identify the parcels, you pick them for each sale, and each parcel shows whether it qualifies for the discount before you save the choice.
Each purchase and each sale is converted on its own transaction date, and each dividend on its payment date, using published central bank rates with the Reserve Bank of Australia first. A missing rate holds back the figure it affects instead of being guessed.
No. A super fund or SMSF is a separate taxpayer with its own return, so those accounts stay in your portfolio and off your individual return. You mark each account once.
No. It prepares the figures and the evidence behind them and exports them as PDF, Excel or CSV for you or your tax agent. You lodge through myTax or your agent.
